Graduate students are encouraged to spend a period of study abroad, especially in their fourth year. Many graduates take advantage of our guaranteed studentships at the École Nationale Supérieure in Paris. Research abroad is also supported by the Donald and Mary Hyde Fellowship, as well as by external fellowships such as the Fulbright, the Chateaubriand, the Lurcy, and others.
The department has a long-standing connection with Bryn Mawr’s Institut Français d’Avignon, and sends one or two students there nearly every summer.
