Bio/Description

Profile

Originally from Turkey, Asena completed their undergraduate studies in Philosophy at Bogazici University in Istanbul. With a profound passion for continental philosophy, they obtained their Master's in Philosophy from Université Jean Moulin Lyon 3 in 2019. Their master's thesis "Habiter le monde: l'être-avec l'Animot" focuses on the question of friendship with non-human animals in Derrida’s philosophy. The thesis examines the question from a phenomenological standpoint while exploring the political consequences of the notion of the animal as an irreducible Other. Gaining insight into the political and ethical powers of language during their studies in philosophy, Asena earned a second Master's degree in Modern Letters at the Université Lumière Lyon 2 with the highest honors. Their second Master's thesis on the works of Roland Barthes, Henri Michaux, and Hélène Cixous, "L'écriture essayiste: une voie vitale", examines essayistic writing as a subversive form of writing with a set of philosophical implications. With a keen interest in interdisciplinary approaches, Asena's research interests include ontology of literature, essayistic writing, post-structural thought, philosophical approaches to subjectivity and language, and animal studies.
