Seuls en Scène, Princeton French Theater Festival
September 17-19, 2021
Seuls en Scène brings celebrated French actors and directors, as well as promising early-career artists, to Princeton University and the local community to present their work, introducing American audiences to dynamic and engaging French productions. This year, due to the ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic, we will be offering a virtual edition of the festival in collaboration with the 50th Edition of Festival d’Automne in Paris.
For the 10th edition of the annual Seuls en Scène, join us for a full weekend of HD screenings of recent works by renowned French artists including Dorothée Munyaneza, Tania de Montaigne, Marion Siéfert, David Geselson, Gisèle Vienne, and Pascal Rambert, among others.
Held in the Wallace Theater at the Lewis Arts complex on the Princeton University campus, all in-person screenings will be free with advance registration required. Events are only open to Princeton students, faculty, and staff. More information will be available soon regarding ticket registration.

With "Mailles," choreographer Dorothée Munyaneza returns with a choral show for female African or of-African-descent artists in which each body and each voice recounts her experience, her commitment and her force. In Montgomery, Alabama, on the 2:30 p.m. bus on March 2, 1955, 15-year-old Claudette Colvin refused to give her seat to a white passenger. Despite threats, she remained seated. Thrown in jail, she decides to plead not guilty and to sue the city. No one before her had dared this. "Noire" is the story of this heroine, still living but largely forgotten. Working with a team of African-American and French performers for two years, David Geselson tackles the gruesome conquest of the New World by European colonizers, focusing in particular on the history of African-Americans. Three actresses on stage, Silvia Costa, Barbara Lennie alternating with Itsaso Arana, and Audrey Bonnet, reclaim the mystery of the annunciation taking place between the Virgin Mary and the Angel Gabriel, personified by each of them in their mother tongue.
