This lecture and workshop will explore issues of language practices, identity, and migration in francophone Canada, with a special focus on creativity in multilingual environments.
Patricia Lamarre, Professor of Critical Sociolinguistics and Second language education (University of Montreal) will present her work, including her studies on the linguistic landscape in Montreal, and discuss ways in which educators can develop courses offering a critical approach to language phenomena in francophone Canada.
Nathalie Thamin (University of Franche-Comté), who has conducted research in both Québec and France, will discuss representations of individual and collective identity in the works of Canadian playwrights (such as W. Mouawad and M. Soleymanlou), give suggestions for teaching with these texts and talk about educational projects involving theater as a means for social integration.
This event is conducted entirely in French and is open to all graduate students and Lecturers interested in francophone Canada. Both presenters will give ideas and pedagogical resources. An interactive workshop, with many opportunities for questions, will take place after the lecture.
