Reading Proficiency Exam

On October 13th, 2016 7pm-8pm (Location: 010 East Pyne ), the Department of French and Italian will offer an examination on reading competency in French and Italian to graduate students from other departments.  
 
Please Note:   The Reading Proficiency exam is only offered once a year.

Format of the Proficiency Examinations 

  1. Translation of a short passage (35 lines) of scholarly prose in the humanities or social sciences.
  2. Two questions in English on this passage (French exam only)
  3. Use of Bilingual dictionary is permitted (paper version only)
  4. No use of grammar books or course books permitted.
  5. Duration: 60 minutes

PLEASE NOTE: In the summer, the Graduate School offers a course in French at the graduate level which is taught by members of this department, but administered through the Graduate School.   Successful completion of this course entitles a student to a reading proficiency certification.
